Shut Up Legs Tours

My itouch decided it does not like connecting to wifi anymore so I'm updating this blog via text message - pain!  If anyone knows how to fix a Gen 1 iphone being used as an itouch, PLEASE let me know! My body deals with hills and it can handle heat. The two together caused legs to file an official protest.  Legs - shut up! Hiding out from the heat somewhere around mile 35 before the climbing started.  It was 95 degrees in Pocatello today. Horses let out to roam free along Buckskin Rd. right before it got steep and turned to gravel.   Along Buckskin Rd on the downhill before the last climb of the day. We ate Mexican in Pocatello.  The feeling of a/c, cold ice water, cold beer, salsa, and chips was incredibly wonderful.  Mama Inez is a good stop - 2 for 1 domestic draft beers and wonderful people working there.

Day 3 - the night at Downatela Hot Springs was cool and I slept well even though Rick said a pack of racoons woke him up.

This was a day for dirt roads which we were not supposed to do at all. We probably did around 30 miles of dirt that comprised almost all the climbing. I learned the benefits of putting ice and water in my Camel Back from Jerry and Rick. I also learned that without a GPS I would be laying in an alfalfa field somewhere. Thank God both Rick and Jerry have GPS so we know where we are and how to get back on route when we make detours. The Rivendell experienced its' first flat today. Looked like a goat head thorn that we ran through yesterday. Tonight we are staying at the Downata Hot Springs camping resort tonight. The hamburg and root beer float here at the snack bar were awesome. The lady at the snack counter also gave me free refills!! The weather was hot with temps around 98 degrees. We stayed at the Galaxie Motel in Brigham City. I walked about a mile to the State liquor store in the heat and bought Sierra Nevada Summer Fest, Stout, and Porter. The bad thing was that Utah makes it illegal to sell cold beer at their stores. We went to J&D's next door for dinner. My sweet potato fries were interesting with sugar and cinnamon added to them. Jerry and Rick enjoyed their spaghetti and meatballs.

Rick, Jerry and I are leaving Salt Lake City today. Destination is Brigham City.  Our total route will be around 2000 miles over 5 weeks.  We will head up through Idaho and into Montana through Missoula and Glacier National Park.  We will cross the border into Canada at St Marys and then go through Peter Loughheed Park in Alberta before heading up the Icefields Parkway to Jasper.  Then it will be down through British Columbia to Whistler and across Horseshoe Bay to Victoria.  We will then spend a couple days in the San Juan islands before finishing up in Bellingham, WA. The weather is, of course, setting records for high temps. I guess we will be simpatico with the TDF riders. My gear weighed in at 48 lbs. I remembered two things that were forgotten: 1) chain lube and 2) bike lock. I'll be looking for a bike shop and hardware store.
